CJEL 15th Anniversary Dinner, April 18, 2009
The 15th year of the Journal saw four major developments. The most of which were the launch of a new website and online supplement in April 2009. Additionally, a new standardized citation guide for European sources was created as a supplement to the American “Bluebook” citation style. Last, but not least, CJEL absorbed the Columbia Journal of East European Law and, beginning with issue 16.1, will publish an article in each issue dedicated to this region.
The journal also hosted a 15th Anniversary Dinner on Saturday, April 18, 2009. Introductory remarks were delivered by 2008/09 Editor-in-Chief Gregory Odegaard and Professor George Bermann, the founder of the journal and present chair of its editorial board. It was our enormous pleasure to welcome Jean-Claude Piris, Director-General of the Legal Service of the Council of the European Union, as the keynote speaker. Mr. Piris’ speech concerned recent media reports which, he argued, have overestimated the risks posed by the current financial crisis to the European Union’s structure and functioning.
The event was a great success and we welcomed many former CJEL members and Advisors, including seven Editors-in-Chief. Among the guests were also authors who published with CJEL in the past.
We look forward to the next 15 years and the developments they bring.
